#13: Play Vista Isle, Florida: 58,000 sq ft
Formally known as Le Palais Royal, this mega-mansion in Florida is one of America’s most expensive homes and in 2016 went on the market for $159 million). Located in Hillsboro Beach, the mansion was modelled on the Palace of Versailles. Owner Robert Pereira, started building the mansion as a side project, but soon decided to try and sell it, putting it up for auction in November 2018.
The home is full of the most luxurious materials you can imagine. The entrance opens onto a marble staircase with wrought-iron railings and gold leaf accents took craftsmen two years to finish at a cost of $2 million. The gold leaf doesn’t stop there, as the mahogany kitchen cabinets are also adorned with the luxury material.
The house has 11-bedrooms and 17-bathrooms, with four of the bedrooms having their very own jacuzzi where you can look out onto the 465 feet of beachfront, or even keep an eye on your yacht sitting in the private dock.
Outside the mansion is just as fabulous as inside. A 4,500-square-foot infinity pool with six cascading waterfalls is complimented by a LED-lit waterslide. For the evenings, a fire pit sits in the middle of the pool, and suspended above on a plinth is an infinity-edge hot tub. And that’s not all, the house features many weird and wonderful amenities, including the nation’s first in-home IMAX theatre with enough room for 18 people.
